The BRAVO project aims at developing a point-of-care diagnostic test for early detection of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The test is based on an impedrimetric biosensor integrated in a microfluidic cartridge. The sensor allows multiplex measurement of disease markers to be carried out using a single drop of patients’ blood as a input, thereby offering a great improvement to the diagnosis and treatment of RA. The integration of the laboratory workflow (i.e., blood filtration and measurement fluidic sequence) in a microfluidic cartridge allows for automation, which results in reduced turnaround times and improved test quality. Sensor readout and control, signal processing, data management and presentation software will be integrated in a self-contained reader that will provide an easy-to-use interface to the end user at the point-of-care.
