Some applications in life-sciences require microfluidic devices or flowcells to be coated with bio-molecules, such as DNA primers, before sealing the device. A thermal sealing process would ruin the bio-molecules and can not be used in this case.

To make sealing possible Micronit has developed a flexible technology to create gaskets on glass. With this technology glass or fused silica devices can be sealed at room temperature. Even resealable devices can be created.

The flowcells consists of two glass plates with a gasket fabricated in between the glassplates, applying slight pressure to the glass plates seals the chamber creating a flowcell. The material used for the gasket is chemically inert and can be used with most solvents. The unique technology allows Micronit to customize flowcells at a relatively low cost with short turnaround times. 

With a high degree of freedom this technology is suitable to create almost any design and it can easily be integreated with other techniques suchs as glass-etching or the application of thin metal layers.

  • Low cost flowcells for cell culturing 
  • Flowcells for DNA, RNA or protein arrays
  • Resealable flowcells for SPR applications
