Laser Drilling

Micronit is capable of generating holes with diameters of just a few micrometers. This enables a perfect match of channel diameter and hole diameter thereby further eliminating dead volume in the microfluidic systems.

With Micronit's new laser drilling technology it is possible to reach almost parallel side walls. For example in glass with a thickness of 700 µm the holes have an average angle of 83°. If the glass is thinner, the angle becomes closer to 90°, close to a straight through hole.

Principle

The glass will be ablated by using ultrafast laser pulses.

Very high aspect ratios and very small holes are characteristic for this technique.

Used glass thicknesses are 700 µm or less. Holes from 10 µm diameter to 500 µm are possible.
