Porous Rock Structures

Researchers are using glass microfluidic structures to better understand the behaviour of fluids in porous rock such as sandstone structures. With this knowledge oil extraction from petroleum reservoirs can be made more efficient and groundwater pollution can be better predicted.

Micronit Microfluidics has been manufacturing all glass structures with microporous structures that closely resemble porous rock structures. Structures can be custom made to represent the exact structure required. The devices are fully transparent and allow full visualisation of the liquid flows.
