Mixing of fluids in microfluidics can be performed in various ways, using so-called folding flow techniques. Folding flow mixers consist of a chain of elements. In each element the flow is folded upon itself, decreasing the length scale for mixing and thus reducing the mixing time.
Key features
The Micronit micromixers offer very short mixing times, ideally mixed conditions and efficient mixing even at low pressures. As the chips are made of glass, they are suitable for aggressive chemicals, 100% optically clear, stable at high temperatures and stable in time.
Micronit offers two different triple-layer micromixer chips for fluids with different Reynolds (Re) numbers: a tear-drop mixer for relative low Re number mixing (Re < 100) and a Swirl mixer for relative high Re number mixing (Re > 50). For an advice on which micromixer to use for your application, click on the Reynolds number calculator on the right. The calculator also tells the residence time of the fluids in the micromixer.
Reynolds and Péclet Number Effects in Folding Flow Mixers
The micromixer chips are made of borosilicate glass and are delivered in the Fluidic Slide to be compatible with the Fluidic Connect 4515.
The table below gives the specifications of the micromixer chips.
